For way too long have women been manipulated into believing that looking a certain way, eating a certain way and dressing in a certain way will make them “appealing” or “desirable”. In fact, the whole concept that women need to be appealing or desirable to anyone but themselves is flawed in itself. But thankfully, in this day and age of the empowered woman, we can finally be proud to be curvy, skinny, dark-skinned or light-skinned.

We’re taking back out space and making this a woman’s world period. Loving yourself and being comfortable in your body is a big FU to a society that deemed it okay for it to dictate what we should or should not do with our bodies and the “acceptable” way to look.

So what exactly does it mean to be curvy?

What Does It Mean To Be A Curvy Girl?

Being curvy does not mean being fat! Not that there’s anything wrong with being on the heavier side either. No one should be shamed for the way they look.

Does your body look like a sexy hourglass with vivacious curves, a strong back, and other great “assets”? Do you sometimes have trouble fitting into jeans because your banging booty is too much for those jeans to handle but your waist fits fine? Or is your waist always a tad bit loose if your butt fits well? Then, congratulations, you’re curvy.

Congratulations, because you’re one of the lucky few to be endowed with a body that is a homage to your powerful femininity. So, embrace those curves and be proud to be curvy!

What Size Is Considered Curvy?

We need to know that being curvy is not about “size”! It is about shape.

You can be tiny and be curvy, or be overweight and be curve-less. Having a full-figure with well-defined hips and bust or well-defined “curves” is what makes a woman curvy.

You can be a mango, spoon, hourglass, pear or strawberry figure depending on which of your curves is more prominent.

A mango body type means fuller hips and thighs, a spoon body type means fuller hips and a thin waist and top, the hourglass body type is where your bust and hips almost have the same measurement, a pear body type is similar to the spoon with a little fuller bust and a strawberry type has a fuller bust than hips.

No matter what type of curves you have, the bottom-line remains that you should be comfortable in your own body and proud to have your curves.

Here’s why you should be proud to be curvy

10 Reasons That Should Make You Proud To Be A Curvy Girl

Yes, it’s hard to look yourself in the mirror and be happy with what you see all the time especially when we have unrealistic body standards thrown at our faces constantly by social media, Bollywood, Hollywood, you name it.

But it’s such a liberating feeling when you fall in love with yourself and realise that it doesn’t matter what society consider’s “perfect” because you consider yourself perfect, the way you are.

Read on to see why you should be proud to be curvy.

1. Loving yourself is a great feeling

More on Women's issues

It is difficult to love yourself while everything around you is telling you that you are ugly. While the world, rather the fashion world, is out there trying to prove that there is a singular idea of beauty, you should remember that they are just trying to sell their products.

They feed on your insecurities, your body image issues and even on your identity crisis. Don’t give them that much power over your body. The time has come to reclaim our own bodies. I say I’m proud to be a curvy girl and embrace the uniqueness of my own body.

If I am to rephrase that popular song, I’m sexy if I know it.

2. Confidence is attractive

Loving yourself and accepting yourself gives you the kind of confidence nothing else can. More often than not, we fail to realise that we’re out own worst critics. We’re so hard on ourselves and put expectations on ourselves that are almost unattainable.

Loving yourself means freeing yourself from you, too. Yes, before fighting your battle with society, you must fight with yourself for your own acceptance. Once you do this, you will be so much more comfortable with yourself. This will attract others to you as you’ll practically be exuberating confidence.

3. You stand out in the best possible way

When globalisation has taken over the market and beauty has been standardised, every other girl looks like she is made in the same mould in the same factory. A curvy girl stands out from the rest of them, as being different is new, unique and a choice.

I know life would feel simple if you looked like everybody else and just lost yourself in the noise of weight loss products, but then you are not living up to the freedom and choice your body has to offer.

You are meant to stand out, be a woman of your own terms, live your life on the basis of your choices, and not be blurred in the mix of millions and remain just a poke in the wheel. Embrace your individuality, embrace your freedom.

4. You can eat to your heart’s desire

You will finally be liberated from constantly trying to cut down on your eating, worrying about carbs and gluten and whatnot. Yes, eating healthy is good to keep your body fit and free from health issues and we must all strive to eat clean and organic. But eating healthy and starving yourself are two separate issues altogether.

If you enjoy being curvy and also a foodie, you no longer have to worry about people making constant comments on what you eat. No one tells a curvy girl to watch her diet if she is confident in her skin. And once again, being curvy is not being fat! You can still follow healthy diets and meal plans that focus more on nutrition and health benefits of food than on starving you.

5. Style, not fashion for curvy girls

Fashion is the general standard for beauty, whereas style is individual expression. While fashion is set by institutions, like big brands and fashion magazines, style is the artistry of knowing your own inherent beauty. So style yourself, girl, don’t flow in fashion: Because style is your own personal way of asserting your existence.

These days, many fashion brands are striving to have more curvy models to show how their clothes flatter all body types. If even the fashion industry is trying to change its ideals of beauty, then why shouldn’t we embrace our curves and be proud of our curves?

6. Ethnic clothes look gorgeous on you

You have, of course, heard that curvy girls look good in ethnic clothes. Have you ever wondered why? It is simply because being size zero is a new thing, while curvy girls have always been appreciated in every culture since the dawn of time.

Kurtas, especially salaries, lehengas and more, make your curves look even more vivacious and simply don’t have the same impact when your skinny friends wear them. Just another one of the advantages of being a curvy woman and another reason to love your curves.

There is no pressure to look perfect. While the global standard of beauty can be anything, we create our own standards and then when the time comes, surpass them. That’s how we roll.

Like we said before, being proud to be curvy is, in essence, liberating yourself from the pressures of society and your own self. If you love yourself and refuse to put conform to the standards of society then no one can make you.

7. Boyfriends will love your curves

When curvy girls get a boyfriend, they are usually the real deal. If you’re wondering “skinny vs curvy what do guys like?”, the clear winner would be curvy.

When a man says you are curvy, it’s a compliment to your body. Men love curvy women and this hs been proven statistically, several times over. So, curvy girls, here is another one of the advantages of being a curvy woman.

8. There’s more of you to love

With great curves, come great features: bigger boobs and an arse to write home about. If it is really the size that matters, then no one can stand in competition with curvy girls. There is more to hold, more to caress, more to love in general when you are dating a curvy girl.

You know that as a curvy girl, men are attracted to your curves and why shouldn’t they be?

9. Anti-stereotype

As I have been saying, curvy girls don’t fit the formula and therefore they cannot be stereotyped in any way. They usually are not the butt of someone’s joke, as they are considered with respect woman deserves.

If you stand out and don’t try to fit into a given formula of beauty just to please men, then you already have taken the first step to earn respect. This is why you should be proud to be curvy.

10. The best cuddles

Ever tried cuddling with both a skinny and a curvy person? Then you clearly know which one is better. Cuddling with someone with a fuller figure is just so much more comforting!

Their hugs are the best and one can’t get enough of them. It is not just for their romantic partners, but also for their friends and family. When you are feeling down and you get a reassuring hug from a curvy girl, your spirits lift and you start to feel good again.

There are endless advantages of being a curvy girl in this world, you only have to open your eyes and see them. Once you start to accept yourself for who you are, no one can dare try to tell you otherwise.

So, be proud to be curvy, be proud to be different and be proud in your own skin!
